Shane Sutherland is a London-based freelance photographer
and video artist of Jamaican descent. Their work utilises both analogue and
digital processes to regenerate power within the Black subject. Interwoven with
present & past film, archival media and theoretical text their practice
explores themes of and adjacent to the nuances & intersections of Black
identity and experience.
Recently they have started working with VR and
photogrammetry in combination with 3D softwares; Blender and Unity to create
new video concepts and experiences. They are also hoping to begin learning game
design basics and how to utilise AR technology within their work.
Shane has just directed and produced an Afrofuturist
Sci-Fi short film: OSUPA, using original VFX and staged footage. They have also
previously exhibited work at One Thoresby Street, Central Saint Martin’s
Gallery, Copeland Gallery, The Wrong Biennial - as part of a group show for
Kawaii.Agency and has work published in Feroce Magazine. They are also
co-founder of London based charity ‘Decolonised Networking’ and has previously
worked in anti-racism & decolonial advocacy within higher education.
