Accompanied by excerpts from "Glitch Feminism," the viewer is guided on a transformative journey, where bodies glitch and transcend established norms. The work challenges the limiting boundaries of binary thinking and celebrates those who courageously resist and defy its confinements. Through this exploration of the queer body and its harmonious entanglement with the digital realm, Meditations of the In/Corporeal calls upon us to embrace the beauty of fluidity, diversity, and defiance, advocating for a world where everyone can authentically and fearlessly inhabit their own unique form. The project is heavily inspired and works through the words of some of the greatest black theorists and thinkers such as bell hooks and the late great cultural theorist Stuart Hall who speaks of ‘black narcissus’ and how artists in the 90’s used themselves as a means to understand cultural representation and the white gaze. ‘A paradox ensues whereby blackness becomes a signifier of that which needs to be invisible, but is also negatively desired. The black man internalises the inscription of race on the skin, epidermalising this relation which casts him as other, inferior and invisible is his all-too-visible visibility. THESE FILMS WOULD OFTEN REVOLVE AROUND VIOLENT, LEWD OR TABOO SUBJECT MATTER AND WERE CREATED TO SPECIFICALLY DRAW ATTRACTION THROUGH SENSATION AND CONTROVERSY. FILMS OF THE GENRE ALWAYS FEATURED BLACK ACTORS IN LEAD ROLES AND WOULD USUALLY REVOLVE AROUND AN ‘AFRICAN AMERICAN’ NARRATIVE AND THE FIGHT AGAINST OPPRESSIVE, ANTAGONISTIC AND GENERALLY WHITE AUTHORITY FIGURES MOST COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS “THE MAN”.
